The extra-large WNW swell peaked overnight but holds strong across Southern California this morning with heaps of size sticking around, especially for more NW-facing breaks. Check out the variety of options around the region in the rotating cam stream above, as the early offshore wind and the dropping tide clean up from the rawness we see during the dawn patrol. (Note: cams rotate after two minutes per spot.)
Senior Pacific Forecaster Schaler Perry lets us know what to expect: “Good winter breaks of Santa Barbara, Orange County, and northern San Diego push from head-high into the well-overhead range through the morning, as select magnets run up to double overhead and bigger. The winter standouts of Southern Ventura, the South Bay, northernmost Orange County, and South San Diego push 2-3x overhead (10-15′ faces) at times. Select breaks of South San Diego still creep into the 4x overhead (18-20′ faces) range through the morning.
“If you want less size, head for tucked away summer breaks of North LA or Orange County. Northern Baja exposures are in for a very large day of waves Friday as well, with structure necessary to find any quality shape to the surf. The deepwater big waves spots will have a go, especially as the tide comes down through the day.”
