Annual data is something you hear Don Higgins talk about a lot in farm country, but for guys hunting in big woods scenarios does that same strategy apply?
In this video, Beau Martonik of the East Meets West Podcast shares his big woods trail camera strategy. Beau has been very successful chasing big woods bucks in the mountains of Pennsylvania, and has a specific three year strategy for his trail camera sets.
The biggest factor is letting the cameras soak for the entire season without any human activity to alter the movement. On public land this may be challenging, but in the areas these big bucks are roaming you can find yourself away from people.
The next factor is to cover multiple elevations. Hills, mountains, or bluffs, the elevation changes will effect deer movement. To learn how deer are traveling the area you want to monitor, get those cameras spread out across multiple elevations. You can pretty easily determine how a specific buck or deer is traveling through the area.
Once you have the data compiled, the next step is learning from it. This is where you will be more successful hunting! If you take the time to organize the data, and really analyze what is going on in that area, you can use the data to capitalize on the next season.
Deer are creatures of habit, identify that habit and your chances of success in the big woods go way up!
